How was your visit to your Promised Land? Now is it time to take things deeper and opening your understanding about what fear really is. Today is all about learning the truth about fear.
But, first, I have to make sure you know what fear is not. It is NOT False Evidence Appearing Real like you may have been taught. Fear is not something that you have made up in your mind. It cannot be overcome with your will no matter how good your intentions may be. I remember the very day God revealed to me the truth about fear.
This particular evening, I was sitting quietly at my two-tiered Ikea press board desk that sat in the corner of the kitchen of my one bedroom, 500 square foot apartment. I was working on my speaking packet and I stopped and asked God, "What makes me different from all the other speakers? "What makes me different than the others you have called to similar work?" I just knew I had to understand this in order to move out of this minuscule apartment and on to manifesting God's vision for my life. I was at the end of what I knew to do.
After about ten minutes of thinking about my unique gifts, talents, and attributes, the next voice I heard was not mine, but it came from within my spirit and said, "I have put all of the answers within my children and they are not being obedient. Your job is to help them be obedient to my call. If they heed my call, the world would be transformed." He then flashed images of famine, war, homelessness, poverty, and inner city crime in my mind.
Then He said, "I have put the answers to all of the world's problems in my children...if only they would heed my call. Your job is to help them be obedient. " I knew He was showing me that it was fear stopping the children of God from obeying Him. From that day on, any remaining fear disappeared and I profoundly understood my specific calling and purpose in this world. I am to guide God's children to fully obey His call on their lives with no fear.
About a year later, I was planning the lesson for my High School Sunday School class to help the Seniors in my class feel fearless about graduating and going out into the "real" world. I needed a deeper understanding of fear to be able to teach my students. I then said, " Lord, I have read your Word and I am not clear about fear. Please reveal to me the truth about fear." In just moments His reply came and said, "Fear is the lack of surrender or submission to God."
Wow! What!? I applied that definition and re-read the passages in the word about fear and it fit! That was it! Fear is the lack of surrender or submission to God. I have been teaching it ever since. Did you get it? This is the truth about fear. It is so important that you understand this. It is the cornerstone of this course. Here it is again...
Fear is the lack of surrender or submission to God.
You must understand that fear is a spiritual issue. Because of the spiritual nature of fear, only spiritual tools work to guide your way out of fear. You may have been taught that fear is your enemy and you can fight fear. You may have believed until now that you can affirm or attempt to overcome your fear with positive self-talk and affirmations posted on your bathroom mirror. Or perhaps you have been trying to push or move your way through your fear with what the world calls "courage."
God allows fear so you can identify the areas of your life for which you do not believe God. Once you recognize these fearful areas in your life, your fear can actually illuminate your pathway to freedom because you know the areas that need work. Removing fear from your life is the doorway to your will and God's will for you becoming one.
There are many ways that fear shows up your life that are not always obvious. Recognizing how you interact with fear is very powerful because it allows you to remove it in all of its forms. The main ways fear manifests are stress, worry, anxiety, doubt, procrastination, double-mindedness, disorganization, clutter, not being comfortable receiving, over-analyzing and excuses.
